As I sit here listening to Raven Simon tell Oprah how she doesn't want to be labeled as "Gay, Lesbian or African American", I have a hard time keeping my mouth shut. She as a woman, or human being, does not want to be limited to a label. IT puts her in a category. She is unable to leave that box. Then comes Oprah, telling her she will regret saying that.
The way Oprah responded infuriates me. Are you trying to perpetuate the race war? She is saying we ARE ALL Americans. It isn't about color as much as a nation. Somehow, Oprah turned this into Raven denouncing her heritage. She is quoted by saying "I don't want to be labeled as a lesbian, I want to be labeled as a human loving another human." What is wrong with that?
Why would a prominent figure like Oprah want to perpetuate the race war. She is saying we are all equal. How is that wrong?
